*Wanderring in China: 花 Flower girl for a day

When you’re traveling with 30+ math whizzes and 20+ stage parents, deviating from the jeans-and-shirt staple can make you stick out like a sore thumb. But at one point, you gotta get used to the stares. Especially when there’s a boater hat with an oversized floral bow on your head.

This day, we decided to experience the famous Beijing-Tianjin Inter-City Railway. (The train is actually called ‘Harmony’, but I rarely came across that name anywhere.) This bullet train runs at over 300 freaking kilometers per hour! Plus the interiors looked almost exactly like an airplane — in fact, I’d go out on a limb and say it was A LOT MORE comfortable than the China Southern Airlines plane we boarded. Foot rests, great air-conditioning, free water, reclinable seats, and train stewards in chic uniforms.

After dinner, my brother and I went on another mini shopping escapade. This was, as mediocre as it turned out to be, the best shopping day of the whole trip.
Besides, my brother surprisingly turned out to be a great travel buddy: because I was older, I get to call the shots (booyah), plus, he’s ironically a lot more… domesticated than me, so he takes care of the little administrative details. Hah.

Now, this shot below has got to be one of my favorite pictures of all time! My brother accidentally made me look like I’m sprouting out of a bunch of yellow flowers. If Thumbelina decided she liked girls and married Alice in Wonderland, this is probably going to be the resulting breed.

That’s really true when shopping abroad or out of town, you really just have to grab it. That hat is lovely by the way!
